The Farm - Byaasgaard Camping

About Byaasgaard

The Farm
The farm itself, which is the first you meet, when you turn from Amtsvejen and into the camping site, can date its eldest existing wing back to 1802, whereas the rest of the farm is from app. 1919.

The farm Byaasgaard can be traced back to the 1700s and has always been a farming property with animals, nursery and fields, and it was not until 1964 that the camping site was established, before it became popular to go camping. Thus Byaasgaard is one of Denmark’s eldest camping sites.

The farm consists of the main house and 4 wings with thatched roof. A very charming old farm with an atmosphere that makes it possible to feel like you are in an old Morten Korch movie. The thatched wings contain reception, kiosk, assembly room, common kitchen, toilet and shower facilities and private living quarters. The facilities on the farm are open throughout the year. Besides the facilities on the far, there are two sanitary buildings and one more kitchen on the site. These buildings are however only open during the period April 1 to September 30.

If you need a spiff for the food, you just have to use some of the lovely herbs that are planted in front of every one of our kitchens. The herbs are free of use and if you only pluck the herbs, you need, there is enough for everyone.

And on a farm there should naturally be animals and we also have them here at Byaasgaard. We have been so fortunate that 25 chicken have chosen to be all year campers here and we have thus designed a special area for camping chicken, colloquially called ”The Happy Chicken Farm”.
The chicken farm is big with 5 different chicken breeds so that there are different things to look at. The chicken lay egg in different colours, among others white, light green, beige and chocolate brown. We hope that others will have the same joy of the chicken as we do.

Old days at Byaasgaard Camping

The Camping Site

Back in 1964 the camping site was only a meadow with no frills. The site quickly became popular among the Danes and later also among foreign campers and it has been ever since. As many campers have said to us: ”If you have visited Byaasgaard Camping once, you need to come back again and again. There is nothing more enjoyable than camping at Byaasgaard”.

We can only agree with the campers that this is true. And it is not taken out of the blue, as we can state that some of our campers have celebrated 50 years anniversary on the site, whereas many have come here through 10, 20 and 30 years.

We are proud and happy that our guests are so loyal, regardless if they are here for a shorter or a longer time, as our guests contribute in creating the particularly positive and open atmosphere that exists on Byaasgaard, and which all of our guests experience and quickly are infected by. We even have campers, who started here as children with their parents and now come here with their own children. So when you first have had Byaasgaard’s soul under your skin, it is hard to get rid of it again.

The site has throughout the years grown a very beautiful and diverse vegetation, which contributes in making the site into something very unique. Only few camping sites in Denmark have the same charming settings to offer as Byaasgaard, and luckily there are also other places. What makes Byaasgaard unique is that we can offer anything from water, meadows, forest and anything in between. To take a stroll along Roskilde Fjord, or just enjoy the view over the fjord can remove the worst stress and give the soul some peace. It is more than difficult not to get in a good mood when you have arrived to the site and it is not unusual to meet a smile, when you move around here.

If you enjoy seeing a beautiful starry heaven, Byaasgaard is also the place. We have chosen to minimise the lighting as much as possible on the site at night – not to save, but to give the possibility of experiencing the darkness and the stars. In many places it is difficult or close to impossible to enjoy a beautiful starry night. Thus we think that everyone should have the chance to experience the heaven without a lot of light from the street lighting etc. So remember a good flashlight so that it is no problem to find your way through the night!

The site is naturally divided into different levels so that there are many nice view points and corners ”hidden” around the site. The many levels contribute in creating an exciting site and give all possibilities of finding exactly the type of space that pleases them best whether it being a site in shadow, shelter, sunshine or something in between.

The area itself, where people camp, is app. 80.000 m2 big, whereas the entire area covers 255.000 m2. There is a lot of space around you, so that you do not need to be worried to be trapped – there is room enough for everyone. Our sites are typically between 100-150 m2, so there is room for even big caravans.

The site is very child-friendly. Even the beach is child-friendly, as the first 100 m have low tide so that even the smallest children can go swimming.

Byaasgaard’s location at the entrance to Roskilde Fjord contributes in creating very special surroundings. Regardless what time of the year you camp, the nature is fantastic and offers a number of experiences. Just to be able to enjoy the sunrise over the fjord makes the day start in a good way.

A part of our areas, particularly by the beach have been appointed as a natural area worthy of preservation, because of the nature, animal and bird life.

Byaasgaard Camping has become a part of ”National Park North Zealand of the Kings”, and it is surely a huge acknowledgement of the nature and the work we do in order to be an active and positive partner in ensuring a good environment for our mutual Earth and everyone at Byaasgaard.

All power comes from wind mills and heating and hot water comes from wood pellets.

One thing is for sure: We do everything possible to keep and improve this unique piece of nature, which Byaasgaard is a part of.

And Halsnæs is made for experiences in the nature. Here we have a lot of nice walking and cycling paths. The fjord invites to all types of water experiences, regardless of it being in kayak, both, on a surfboard, with a fishing pole or whatever might tempt you.

Byaasgaard is perfect as base for experiences in North Zealand and Copenhagen. There is less than an hour’s drive to most of the big attractions on Zealand.

If you want to visit the bigger cities, Hillerød is less than ½ an hour’s drive away and Roskilde, Helsingør and Copenhagen can be reached within an hour. If you do not have your own means of transportation, Byaasgaard has its own bus stop right outside the door. It is called Ellinge (HT area), so even after a nice day/evening on the harbour in Hundested, it is possible to get back to the site in a safe and easy way.

If you want to know more about the area and North Zealand, then click on ”Links" in the menu to the left.

In the reception we are happy to assist you with information about walking and cycling routes and local attractions.

If you have a smart phone or a tablet, it is possible to download Byaasgaard’s App in the App Store that belongs to your smart phone. Here you find many practical information about Byaasgaard and Halsnæs.

If you find flaws or other inexpediencies during your stay, we kindly ask you to inform us as quickly as possible, so that we can strive at helping to the extent it is possible for us.
